I think they tried to also make sure the entire cast was good looking. That can't be a coincidence. Even the bullies. They probably figured that if they have that hook, they are 1/3 way there. I remember my sisters going to see the movie more than once because their crushes on the actors. 3 trips, equals 3 paid for tickets. Obviously the movie is iconic, and their performances were great. But just making this point. Its like every 80's hair metal band had to have a good looking singer. Part of the appeal is always won.
